United States pledges support for Bangladesh's democratic government

The United States has expressed its support for the democratic government of Bangladesh and its readiness to provide assistance. Sarah Aldrich, Acting Director of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, made these remarks during a memorial service held at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, D.C.

The event commemorated the second anniversary of the July mass uprising. Aldrich noted that the uprising established democracy in Bangladesh and stated that the U.S. believes the country is on the right track. She highlighted that the interim government has successfully navigated post-uprising complexities to complete fair and acceptable elections, which has strengthened political and economic ties between the two nations.

Aldrich emphasized the desire to bolster diplomatic and economic cooperation, particularly in the sectors of agriculture and the economy. Michael Kugelman, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, also attended, noting the global significance of the change initiated by Bangladesh's Gen-Z during the uprising.
