United States pledges to strengthen partnership with Nigeria’s NDLEA

The United States has pledged to strengthen its partnership with Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following recent operational successes in combating illicit drug trafficking.

During a meeting in Abuja, Derek Tolliver, the Country Director of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau (INL), commended NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa for the agency’s growth and achievements. Tolliver described the organization’s recent progress and media recognition as “phenomenal” and expressed a commitment to advancing previous INL programs.

Marwa credited the agency’s breakthroughs—including the arrest of major drug traffickers and the discovery of hidden drug production factories—in part to support from the US government. He noted that the INL has provided essential resources, such as operational vehicles, to various commands to bolster enforcement efforts. The collaboration also involves other US entities, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, AFRICOM, and the FBI.
