United States positioned to host 2028 Copa América
The United States is reportedly the leading candidate to host the 2028 Copa América. According to reports from The Times, CONMEBOL and CONCACAF are in advanced discussions to hold the tournament in the U.S., following the 2024 edition.
While Argentina and Ecuador were also considered potential hosts, they reportedly lack the necessary support from both confederations to secure the bid. If the selection is confirmed, the tournament would coincide with the Los Angeles Olympic Games, which may require careful scheduling to avoid conflicts.
Proposed changes to the tournament include expanding the field from 16 to 20 national teams. This expansion would involve increasing the number of slots allocated to CONCACAF members beyond the current six, alongside the ten participating CONMEBOL nations.
