United States reaffirms defense commitment to Japan

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau has reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to Japan’s defense, stating the United States will utilize “the full spectrum of its capabilities” to ensure the nation's security. Speaking via video message at the Mount Fuji Forum in Tokyo, Landau emphasized that Japan's security is central to broader stability in Asia.

The diplomatic message addressed potential threats from China and North Korea, specifically noting their ongoing nuclear program developments. Landau advocated for a strategy of deterrence, suggesting that strengthening military capabilities is the most effective way to prevent conflict by making the cost of an attack prohibitive.

On an operational level, the U.S. plans to upgrade the presence of advanced weaponry in Japan and expand the co-production of missile systems. This move signals a shift toward deeper industrial cooperation and a strengthened joint defense industrial base between the two allies.
