United States reaffirms Monroe Doctrine and regional dominance

The United States Department of State has released a video reaffirming the Monroe Doctrine, asserting that American dominance in the Western Hemisphere ‘will never be questioned again.’ The publication provides a historical overview of the 1823 policy, originally established by President James Monroe to prevent European colonization in the Americas.

The video cites the recent capture of former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro as a contemporary application of this doctrine. According to the report, Maduro was taken by U.S. forces following an operation in Venezuelan territory related to narcoterrorism charges and is currently held in a New York penitentiary. The Department of State noted that this action sends a ‘strong signal to the entire hemisphere.’

This messaging aligns with the National Security Strategy released by the Trump administration in December 2025, emphasizing a renewed focus on regional primacy and security.
