United States reaffirms support for Guyana’s territorial integrity

United States Ambassador Nicole Theriot has reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to Guyana’s territorial integrity and security. Speaking on the Energy Perspectives podcast, Theriot stated that the U.S. stands “shoulder to shoulder” with Guyana regarding its borders and political stability.

Addressing security concerns, Theriot noted that Guyana’s growing oil and gas revenues make it an attractive target for criminal activity. To counter this, the U.S. is strengthening partnerships in maritime and air domain awareness. Guyana has also been named a founding member of the Shield of the Americas and the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition to combat narcotrafficking, online scams, and transnational organized crime.

The diplomatic remarks follow recent geopolitical shifts, including a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodríguez. While Rodríguez has called for negotiations to settle the long-standing border dispute between Guyana and Venezuela, the U.S. maintains its support for Guyana’s sovereignty.
