United States remains India's top LPG supplier in June

The United States retained its position as India's largest liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplier in June, delivering 773.78 thousand metric tonnes—up 19.4% from May. Overall Indian LPG imports rose 3% to 1,191 thousand metric tonnes, with the United Arab Emirates moving to second place at 157 thousand tonnes and Saudi Arabia and Kuwait each supplying about 64 thousand tonnes.

The increase reflects India’s effort to diversify energy imports amid geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia. A long‑term agreement to import 2.2 million tonnes of LPG from the United States from 2026 has been signed, and refiners have secured sufficient crude and LPG supplies through August. Before the West Asia conflict, roughly 90% of India’s LPG arrived via the Strait of Hormuz; disruptions prompted a broader sourcing basket that now includes the United States, Oman, Argentina, Nigeria, Algeria and Egypt.

Analysts expect India’s diversification strategy to continue even after regional tensions ease, aiming to reduce reliance on Gulf producers and enhance energy‑security resilience.
