United States resumes leadership of global pro-life coalition

The United States government is resuming leadership of an international pro-life coalition through the Geneva Declaration on Consensus on Women’s Health and Family Empowerment. The initiative, originally launched in 2020, is being jointly led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of State, according to a joint announcement by Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The declaration focuses on international cooperation to improve women's health through an approach centered on life, family, and sovereignty. It explicitly states that “there is no international right to abortion, nor any international obligation of states to fund or facilitate abortion,” and defines the family as the “foundation of society and a source of health, support, and care.”

While the declaration was initially signed by 34 countries, the number of signatories has grown to 43, with Argentina joining most recently. The Trump administration has officially presented the agreement to the United Nations General Assembly as an official UN document. Hungary has acted as the secretariat for the coalition of nations. The administration expects more countries to join in the coming months.
