US sanctions 10 entities for allegedly supporting Iran's military procurement
The United States Treasury Department has imposed new sanctions on 10 individuals and entities located in Iran, China, Hong Kong, and Pakistan. These measures are part of ‘Operation Economic Outcast,’ an initiative by the Trump administration designed to increase economic pressure on Tehran and restrict its access to global markets.
The targeted network is accused of facilitating the procurement of weapons, electronic components, and dual-use materials for Iran’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL). Specifically, the sanctions aim to disrupt supply chains for Iran’s ballistic missile and military drone programs, including the development of ‘Shahed’ type UAVs.
Key targets include Seyyed Asghar Alizadeh Tabatabai, a Beijing-based representative for MODAFL, and the Iran-based Kavoshcom Asia R&D Group. Additionally, the Hong Kong-based EC Mojo Technology Co Limited and its representative Li Fen were sanctioned for providing electronic components to support procurement efforts. Waseem Pasha Tajammal, chairman of the Pakistan-based Cavalier Group, was also named.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the department will continue to identify and isolate those providing material or technological support to the Iranian regime. While the sanctions aim to increase the cost of military procurement, some analysts suggest the measures may have limited impact on Iran’s immediate ability to launch missiles and drones in the Strait of Hormuz.
