United States sanctions Nigerian network accused of financing ISIS

The United States has publicly identified and sanctioned an alleged ISIS financing network with links to Nigeria, naming a Nigerian national, several companies and specific locations across Europe, the Middle East and West Africa. The sanctions freeze assets under U.S. jurisdiction and alert the international financial system.

U.S. officials called on Nigerian authorities to act, praising the Central Bank of Nigeria’s directive to freeze related accounts while urging a coordinated response from the Department of State Services, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, the National Intelligence Agency, the Defence Intelligence Agency and the Office of the National Security Adviser. The aim is to dismantle the financial channels supporting terrorist operations in Nigeria and elsewhere.

The move highlights ongoing concerns about terrorism financing and the need for integrated security and financial intelligence efforts across both countries.
