United States sanctions supporters of pro-Iranian militias

The United States has imposed new sanctions against organizations and individuals accused of supporting pro-Iranian militias to isolate Tehran and curb its influence in the Middle East. The U.S. Treasury Department targeted entities and persons linked to Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq and the Lebanese Hezbollah, accusing them of strengthening Iran’s destabilizing presence and assisting in the evasion of existing sanctions.

The measures affect organizations located in Iraq, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey. Specifically, the sanctions include four leaders and members of Kataib Hezbollah, as well as individuals accused of arms sales and financing illegal activities. These actions are part of a broader effort to strike at the core of Iran’s proxy networks, which include the Houthi militia in Yemen.

This follows recent U.S. actions against the Iranian aviation sector, which included sanctions on 27 airlines such as Kish Airlines, Iran Air Tour, and ATA Airlines. Washington has warned that foreign companies and banks may face consequences if they continue to conduct business with the sanctioned entities.
