United States sees widening wealth gap as elite fortunes surge

Generational wealth in affluent families is characterized by early and routine financial education, a long‑term investment outlook that endures market volatility, and structural safety nets such as trusts and succession plans that preserve assets across generations.

In the United States, the concentration of wealth has risen sharply. Data from the Federal Reserve and Bloomberg show the top 0.1% of households owned 14.5 % of total wealth in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from 11.9 % in 2007. The aggregate wealth of this elite group reached $25.47 trillion, while the poorest 50 % held just $4.31 trillion, making the richest 0.1 % nearly six times wealthier than the bottom half. Twenty‑four individuals now hold more wealth than the entire bottom half of the population, illustrating a deepening disparity.
