Pan Pacific Championships see U.S. world record and Summer McIntosh upset

The Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California, have seen significant breakthroughs and upsets. The United States team set a new world record in the 4x100-meter mixed medley relay with a time of 3:36.70, featuring Will Modglin, Van Mathias, Gretchen Walsh, and Kate Douglass.

In individual events, American Katie Ledecky won the 1,500-meter freestyle, finishing ahead of Australia’s Lani Pallister. However, the meet saw a major shock when Canadian world record holder Summer McIntosh failed to qualify for the 400-meter freestyle final, finishing ninth in the heats. McIntosh later rebounded to win the 400-meter individual medley with a championship record time of 4:28.01.

Other notable performances include Gretchen Walsh winning the 50-meter butterfly and Jack Alexy winning the 100-meter butterfly. The competition continues to feature top talent from the United States, Australia, Canada, and Japan.
