United States shifts stance on military aid to Israel

The relationship between the United States and Israel is facing significant shifts following Republican losses in midterm elections. President Donald Trump announced the termination of annual military aid to Israel, estimated at US$ 3.8 billion, which was previously scheduled to continue until 2028.

Republican Senator JD Vance has suggested that the bilateral partnership requires reevaluation due to domestic fiscal costs and the need to prioritize U.S. security concerns, such as China and internal terrorism. Vance noted that the debate over Israel's aid was a factor in the Republican Party losing majorities in the House and Senate.

Other political figures, including former New York Mayor Rahm Emanuel, have advocated for conditioning aid on policies that promote regional stability, such as limiting settlement expansion in the West Bank and pursuing a two-state solution. Since 1947, Israel has received over US$ 300 billion in total aid from the U.S., with US$ 224 billion designated for military assistance.
