The United States and Saudi Arabia have signed a civilian nuclear cooperation agreement under Section 123 of the Atomic Energy Act. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman presented the 30‑year pact that would allow American companies to assist Riyadh in developing a peaceful nuclear energy program. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that the deal will move forward only if Saudi Arabia joins the Abraham Accords, normalising relations with Israel. He wrote, “The Civil Nuclear Deal … will be approved, but is totally subject to Saudi Arabia joining the very respected and successful Abraham Accords.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed the condition, saying the agreement would be cancelled if Saudi Arabia declines. While officials stress the agreement excludes uranium enrichment, analysts note the text may permit enrichment and raise proliferation concerns. The pact now awaits congressional approval and has sparked debate in the United States and across the Middle East.
