United States supports Poland's bid for permanent G20 membership

The United States has officially confirmed its support for Poland's efforts to obtain permanent membership in the G20, the group of the world's largest economies. The U.S. Department of State stated that Washington intends to continue discussions with other G20 members throughout the year to make Poland a full member as quickly as possible.

American diplomacy cites Poland's long-term economic growth and its increasing international leadership position as primary reasons for its candidacy. The U.S. also noted that G20 members have benefited from Poland's contributions to working groups and ministerial meetings.

While Poland is participating in G20 activities in 2026 via a special invitation from the United States, it does not yet hold a permanent seat. U.S. officials have reportedly proposed including a provision regarding Poland's permanent membership in the final declaration of the G20 summit in Miami this December. However, any such decision requires a consensus among all current members, meaning Russia could potentially block the expansion. The final position of Moscow remains unknown.
