United States talks with FIFA about hosting 2029 Club World Cup

U.S. officials have begun informal discussions with FIFA regarding a bid to host the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup. While no formal candidature has been submitted, the United States is assessing the selection process before committing. The effort follows the record attendance and revenue of the 2026 World Cup, which FIFA sold about 6.5 million tickets for and aims to generate over US$11 billion in revenue.

Andrew Giuliani, who leads the Trump administration’s World Cup task force, said the sport “is no longer a story of the future in the United States – it’s happening now” and highlighted strong demand for matches on American soil. Brazil’s football federation and Qatar have also expressed interest in the 2029 tournament. FIFA is expected to decide on the host nation in 2027, after its presidential election.
