United States tightens visa regulations and immigration enforcement

The United States is tightening immigration and visa regulations, focusing on stricter enforcement for non-immigrant visa holders and increased scrutiny of immigration fraud.

The Department of State has announced a zero-tolerance policy regarding foreign nationals arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the administration will not tolerate individuals who violate the law and threaten community safety. Recent actions include the revocation of visas for five foreign nationals following serious traffic violations, including cases involving high blood alcohol concentrations, driving under the influence of heroin, and causing injuries to others.

Simultaneously, authorities are intensifying controls on immigration pathways to combat fraud. This includes a crackdown on organized rings facilitating sham marriages for immigration status, exemplified by a recent indictment of 11 individuals involved in a scheme involving over 1,000 fraudulent marriages. The increased scrutiny extends to various visa types, with more frequent interviews for green card applicants and stricter questioning for tourists to ensure compliance with entry purposes.
