United States to grant $57 million to Venezuela's El Sistema
The United States government, through the Department of State and in coordination with Congress, plans to allocate $57 million in grants to the Simón Bolívar Musical Foundation, known as ‘El Sistema’, in Venezuela.
The funding is primarily intended to complete the construction of an 18,000-square-meter teacher training center that had previously been abandoned due to budget cuts. Additionally, the resources will support various educational initiatives and cultural programs managed by the institution.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, this investment is part of a broader strategy involving President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to promote long-term economic stabilization, political reconciliation, and democratic transition in Venezuela. The Embassy noted that ‘El Sistema’ serves more than one million vulnerable children and youth through musical education, acting as a global benchmark for arts education.
