United States to send additional troops to Poland amid Russian threat

The United States and Poland are discussing expanding the American military presence in Poland, including the possible establishment of a permanent U.S. base. Over the next three months, additional U.S. troops are expected to arrive, with a decision on a permanent base anticipated within six to twelve months.

Poland currently hosts about 10,000 U.S. troops, deployed through rotating missions and permanent command structures, making it a key eastern NATO stronghold. Polish officials say the increased presence would strengthen deterrence against Russia as the war in Ukraine continues. The talks followed a visit to the Pentagon by Bartosz Grodecki, head of Poland’s Office for National Security, and come ahead of the upcoming NATO summit focused on deterrence, defense spending, and support for Ukraine.
