United States trade officials meet with Argentine ministers
A mission from the United States Trade Representative (USTR), led by Jeffrey Goettman, recently met with Argentine officials, including Economy Minister Pablo Lavigne and Foreign Minister Fernando Brun Bachmann. The discussions focused on whether Argentina is fulfilling its obligations under commercial agreements, particularly following recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings regarding tariffs.
Argentina has demonstrated progress in adhering to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and intellectual property standards. President Javier Milei is expected to propose further initiatives concerning microorganisms, trademarks, industrial designs, and satellites to strengthen ties. Additionally, the USTR is seeking the approval of a new seed law in Argentina, which has faced delays due to disagreements between seed companies and agricultural representatives. Recent meetings aim to resolve issues regarding royalty payments and land exemptions.
