United States urges Latin American nations to withdraw from ICC

At an ‘Anti-American Cartel Coalition’ meeting in Panama, Pete Hegseth called on Latin American nations to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC). He argued that the court’s actions represent an attempt to ‘take away the sovereignty of countries.’ Hegseth also defended U.S. military operations against suspected drug traffickers in the region, stating they are ‘completely legal under international humanitarian law.’

Additionally, Hegseth announced that Colombia will join the ‘Americas Shield’ initiative. The new Colombian government, led by President Abelardo de la Espriella, has requested U.S. cooperation for joint military operations to combat ‘drug terrorism.’ The ‘Americas Shield’ initiative follows a summit held in Florida between President Donald Trump and Latin American leaders to coordinate efforts against drug cartels.
