Dominican Republic hosts Americas Counter Cartel Coalition conference

The Americas Counter Cartel Coalition (A3C) held a conference in Santo Domingo on October 26 and 27, bringing together defense and security representatives from 19 nations. The event, co-organized by the Dominican Republic Ministry of Defense and U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), focused on strengthening regional cooperation to combat transnational organized crime, drug trafficking, and narco-terrorism.

During the summit, participants worked on developing an operational plan and a governance charter to establish coalition priorities and coordination mechanisms. Key objectives include enhancing intelligence exchange, conducting joint operations against criminal networks, and protecting borders and critical infrastructure. The coalition also aims to address the illicit financing, logistics, and corruption that sustain cartel activities.

U.S. Southern Command Commander General Francis L. Donovan praised the Dominican Republic as a strategic ally and key partner in the region. Dominican President Luis Abinader opened the conference, emphasizing that international criminal organizations require a unified, non-fragmented state response to be effectively dismantled.
