United States weather shows sharp contrast during Labor Day weekend

The United States is experiencing a sharp weather contrast during the Labor Day holiday weekend. A powerful heat dome anchored over the nation's heartland is fueling oppressive, above-average temperatures, with highs reaching the 90s in regions such as southeast Nebraska.

In the West, a strong low-pressure system is bringing a fall-like pattern. Temperatures in some areas could fall 10 to 25 degrees below normal, with snow possible at higher elevations, including the Sierra Nevada. Heavy rainfall is also expected in southern Nevada and central Utah due to moisture associated with Hurricane Marie.

Across the Central and Southern U.S., a frontal boundary is expected to trigger scattered severe storms, heavy rain, and potential flooding. A cold front is forecasted to move through the Midwest, including Nebraska, late Tuesday or Wednesday, eventually bringing cooler temperatures and relief from the extreme heat.
