United Therapeutics acquires Thymmune Therapeutics for $140 million

United Therapeutics announced the acquisition of Thymmune Therapeutics, a privately held pre‑clinical biotechnology firm developing regenerative thymic cell therapies. The transaction provides $140 million in cash, with the possibility of up to $160 million in additional milestone payments tied to clinical and regulatory milestones through 2031.

Thymmune’s platform converts human‑induced pluripotent stem cells into thymic cells that mature in the body to restore T‑cell function. Its lead candidate, THY‑100, is in pre‑clinical development for congenital athymia, an ultra‑rare condition in which infants lack a functioning thymus. United Therapeutics says the acquisition complements its organ‑alternative programs, including its UThymoKidney clinical effort, and expands its immunomodulatory pipeline.

Martine Rothblatt, CEO of United Therapeutics, said the deal “adds a platform that could broaden thymic regenerative approaches for transplant tolerance, immune deficiencies, and autoimmune diseases.” Thymmune founder and CEO Stan Wang highlighted the shared vision of using regenerative medicine to transform patient care.
