Unitra Community Radio celebrates 30th anniversary in Mthatha

Deputy Minister in The Presidency, Kenny Morolong, is delivering the keynote address at the 30th anniversary of Unitra Community Radio in Mthatha. The event celebrates three decades of community broadcasting and its role in supporting grassroots democracy.

The anniversary is part of the Milestones of Freedom Campaign, which was launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa in June 2026 to reflect on South Africa’s democratic journey. The celebration coincides with the 30th anniversary of the South African Constitution, highlighting how the Bill of Rights and freedom of expression have enabled the growth of the community media sector.

Since its inception, Unitra Community Radio has focused on providing a platform for local voices, promoting social cohesion, and supporting development initiatives through community-centered broadcasting.
