Unitree CEO discusses AI governance and global expansion
At the Hong Kong sub-forum of the Hongqiao International Economic Forum, Baidu Executive Vice President Shen Dou emphasized that the development of AI in the Northern Metropolis should prioritize governance capabilities before moving toward scientific research applications, such as in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
Unitree founder and CEO Wang Xingxing identified Hong Kong as a strategic starting point for globalization, noting that his company has been exporting products through the region since 2018. Wang highlighted the importance of leveraging Hong Kong’s legal system to navigate the complex international regulatory landscape, which he noted can be a significant barrier for tech companies seeking to expand overseas.
Regarding industry trends, Wang predicted that next year could be a critical tipping point for the robotics sector. He identified data, computing power, chip capacity, energy, and minerals as the five most essential resources for the future. He also noted that while robots are achieving high success rates in fixed tasks, improvements in physical contact and tactile processing are necessary to master fine motor skills.
