Unitree unveils ‘Superman’ humanoid robot with record-breaking speed

Unitree Robotics has unveiled ‘Superman’, a new humanoid robot capable of significant athletic feats. The robot can reach a top speed of 12.66 meters per second (approximately 45.6 km/h), which exceeds the peak speed recorded by Usain Bolt during his 2009 world record sprint. Additionally, the robot can perform a standing vertical jump of up to 2 meters.

The development of the ‘Superman’ prototype was completed in just over three months. The announcement coincides with Unitree’s highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO) on the Shanghai STAR Market. The company, which claims to be the world’s largest manufacturer of humanoid robots by sales volume, has already delivered approximately 18,000 bipedal robots as of July.

Unitree’s IPO has seen massive investor interest, with demand reportedly exceeding the available stock by thousands of times. The company raised approximately 6.1 billion yuan (about $905 million) through the offering. While the robot’s performance has been demonstrated in company videos, independent verification of these specific speed and jump records has not yet been provided.
