Unitree Robotics demonstrates autonomous humanoid boxing with G1
Unitree Robotics has demonstrated significant advancements in autonomous humanoid robotics with its G1 model. In a recent showcase, the G1 participated in a boxing match against a human trainer without the use of remote controllers or pre-programmed sequences.
The robot’s movements were coordinated by a new AI world model, UnifoLM-X2-1.0. This architecture allows the machine to perceive its physical environment and anticipate an opponent's actions in real time. By evaluating how a combat scenario evolves, the G1 can proactively adjust its posture, dodge strikes, and execute counter-attacks while maintaining balance.
While these demonstrations highlight a shift from simple teleoperation to predictive modeling, observations from the IFA technology fair in Berlin suggest that many humanoid robots currently on display still rely heavily on human operators for complex tasks. Although the G1 shows high agility and stability, technical challenges regarding computational load and latency remain areas for further development.
