Unitree prepares for Shanghai IPO amid massive retail investor demand

Unitree, a prominent Chinese manufacturer of humanoid and quadrupedal robots, is set to launch its initial public offering (IPO) on the Shanghai STAR Market. The company, based in Hangzhou, aims to raise approximately 6 billion yuan (roughly 770 million to 900 million USD) at a valuation of approximately 9 billion USD.

The IPO has generated massive investor interest, particularly among retail investors. The retail tranche was reported to be oversubscribed by more than 5,500 times, with some reports indicating initial demand exceeded 8,000 times. Due to this intense demand, a clawback mechanism was triggered to reallocate shares from institutional to retail investors. Consequently, the final subscription rate for retail investors was approximately 0.018 percent.

Unitree's offering price is set at 150.80 yuan per share. The company reported delivering 5,500 humanoid robots in 2025. Institutional interest includes hedge funds linked to DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng. While the company has achieved significant cultural visibility through viral videos of its robots, analysts note that the high valuation reflects intense market enthusiasm for AI and robotics in China, despite the fact that widespread commercial application of humanoid robots is still in its early stages.
