Unitree Robotics expands into venture capital amid market shifts
Unitree Robotics has partnered with Sequoia China to launch the “Shan Yu · Chuang Plan,” an initiative targeting early-stage startups in the embodied intelligence and robotics sectors. This move marks a strategic shift for Unitree, transitioning from a recipient of venture capital to an active investor providing technical guidance, mass production support, and supply chain resources.
Despite the expansion into investment, Unitree’s recent financial reports show a complex performance. While the company reported revenue of 1.817 billion yuan for the first three quarters of 2024, surpassing its total 2023 revenue, its non-recurring net profit declined by over 17% year-on-year. This decline is attributed to rising research and development and sales expenses as the company aggressively pursues technological advancement and market expansion.
In the broader industry, Unitree’s founder, Wang Xingxing, aims to incubate over 200 ecosystem enterprises within five years. This trend of robotics manufacturers acting as venture capitalists is gaining momentum as traditional financial investors become more cautious in the embodied intelligence sector.
