Unitree Robotics unveils Super Athlete AS2-W high‑speed quad‑paw robot
Chinese robotics firm Unitree Robotics introduced the Unitree Super Athlete AS2‑W, a four‑legged robot equipped with wheels. The hybrid design lets it alternate between rapid wheel‑driven travel and agile legged locomotion, enabling it to run up to 30 km/h (about 6 m/s bursts) and maintain a cruise speed of 3.7 m/s while carrying up to 16 kg.
The AS2‑W can cover roughly 30 km on a single 15 000 mAh battery, operates for up to three hours unloaded, and is water‑resistant (IP54). It negotiates 45° slopes, 80 cm steps and streams across rivers, thanks to AI‑driven real‑time terrain analysis that adjusts posture and balance. Weighing 25 kg and supporting a static load of 150 kg, the robot is pitched for industrial inspection, logistics, exploration, search‑and‑rescue and other tasks in hard‑to‑reach environments. A viral video of the robot sprinting over rocks and streams highlighted the rapid progress of rugged mobile robotics.
