Unitree Robotics shares surge up to 629% following Shanghai IPO

Unitree Robotics, a leading Chinese manufacturer of humanoid and quadruped robots, experienced a historic debut on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Following its IPO at 150.8 yuan per share, the company's stock surged by as much as 629% during its first trading session, reaching a market valuation of approximately $50 billion to $66 billion. The offering saw massive retail investor interest, with subscriptions exceeding 8,000 times.

At the World Robot Conference in Beijing, Unitree founder Wang Xingxing predicted that the robotics industry is approaching its 'ChatGPT moment.' He defined this milestone as the point when humanoid robots can successfully complete roughly 80% of tasks in unfamiliar environments using only voice or text instructions. Wang estimated this breakthrough could occur within two to ten years, depending on the pace of AI evolution.

To support this vision, Unitree plans to allocate approximately half of its IPO proceeds toward developing advanced software and 'humanoid brains' to enhance embodied intelligence. The company has already established a significant market presence, having shipped thousands of robots globally, and is leveraging China's consolidated supply chains to maintain competitive production costs.
