Stiftung Warentest awards top rating to uniVersa dental insurance
Stiftung Warentest has evaluated 278 dental supplementary insurance plans, awarding the top rating of “Sehr gut (0,5)” to the uni-dent|Top 100 tariff from uniVersa Krankenversicherung. The plan was noted for its comprehensive coverage of regular and private care, including inlays and implants, without waiting periods or age restrictions. In model studies, the tariff covered the full difference in costs for implants after statutory contributions, which can amount to approximately 4,366 euros.
Separately, dental health experts from the Informationsstelle für Kariesprophylaxe (IfK) are warning about secondary caries. This condition occurs when bacteria penetrate under loose dental crowns or bridges, or at the gum line. Professor Stefan Zimmer warns that if not detected early through regular dental check-ups, secondary caries can lead to the loss of the tooth stump. Prevention includes thorough cleaning of crowns with fluoride toothpaste and daily use of interdental tools.
