Universal and Blumhouse set January 2027 release for 'River
Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster have announced that the slasher film 'River' will be released in theaters on January 15, 2027. The film, written and directed by Joshua Giuliano, stars Jane Levy and Jessica Rothe.
Originally an IFC/Shudder production, the project became the subject of a bidding war following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Universal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster acquired the rights for more than $10 million, beating out competitors such as Sony Pictures and Netflix.
The plot follows three estranged siblings who reunite in their hometown to scatter their father's ashes. Their journey turns into a nightmare when they are stalked by a killer while stranded near a remote river. The film has received strong critical reception, maintaining a high approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
