Universal Music Group executives depart amid $270 million cost-cutting
Universal Music Group (UMG) is undergoing a major restructuring aimed at reducing annual expenses by approximately $270 million. This cost-cutting initiative, first announced in February 2024, has led to several high-profile executive departures across its global operations, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
Tunji Balogun, Chairman and CEO of Def Jam Recordings, is set to exit UMG by the end of 2026. Other notable departures include Ben Mortimer, President of Polydor Label Group, and Interscope Geffen A&M A&R Presidents Nicole Wyskoarko and Sam Riback.
In a related development, Jim Roppo, the former chairman and CEO of Republic Records, is joining Warner Records Group as vice chair. Roppo, who spent three decades at UMG, will report to Warner Records Group chairman and CEO Aaron Bay-Schuck.
