Universal Orlando mascot Earl the Squirrel to debut in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Universal Orlando Resort has announced that its holiday character, Earl the Squirrel, will make its debut as a giant balloon in the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 26. The balloon, which measures approximately 30.4 feet tall and 14.5 feet wide, depicts the character wearing a winter cap and holding a blue Christmas light.

The character is based on a real squirrel discovered nearly 20 years ago living in the branches of the Christmas tree at Universal Studios Florida, where it was known for stealing blue Christmas lights. Following the parade in New York City, the Earl the Squirrel balloon will travel to Orlando to participate in Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s at Universal Studios Florida, starting in early December.

The 100th anniversary parade will also feature several other NBCUniversal characters, including Shrek, Minions, and Felix the Cat, alongside Disney’s Bluey balloon.
