Universal Orlando shifts strategy following revenue decline
Comcast has announced a strategic pivot for Universal Orlando following a decline in theme park performance. During a third-quarter earnings call, co-CEO Mike Cavanagh reported that theme park revenue fell 4.4% to $2.6 billion, while adjusted EBITDA dropped 17.1% to $780 million.
The company attributed the decline to lower admissions revenue, citing economic factors and the cost of increased promotions and discounts. Cavanagh noted that competitors were quicker to adapt their marketing strategies to address softening demand.
To address these challenges, Universal has implemented leadership changes. Luc Bondar, formerly of United Airlines, has joined as the new chief brand and commercial officer. Additionally, Randy Culbertson, a former NBCUniversal CFO, is joining as chief business officer. The company is also planning new promotional offerings, including “three-park passes.”
