Universal Pictures shifts focus to Jurassic World franchise

Universal Pictures has effectively transitioned its dinosaur-themed film franchise from the original ‘Jurassic Park’ branding to the ‘Jurassic World’ banner. While the original trilogy established the property, the ‘Jurassic World’ era has seen significant commercial success, with films such as ‘Jurassic World’ (2015) earning $1.67 billion and ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ (2018) earning $1.31 billion.

Following the release of ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ in 2025, which grossed $869.1 million, a sequel is currently in development. Reports indicate that Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali are expected to return for the upcoming installment. However, director Gareth Edwards has reportedly exited the project due to creative differences, leaving Universal to search for a replacement.
