Universal Pictures to remake South Korean thriller ‘Confession of Murder’
Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to remake the 2012 South Korean crime thriller ‘Confession of Murder’ for English-language audiences. The original film, directed by Jung Byung-gil, follows a detective whose investigation is reignited when a suspected serial killer releases a book detailing murders for which the statute of limitations has expired.
Chris McBride is set to write the screenplay for the adaptation. Glen Powell and Dan Cohen will produce the project through their company, Barnstorm, alongside Naomi Funabashi and Rishi Rajani of Winged Tiger. Universal executive Christine Sun will oversee the production, with Barnstorm’s Jacquelina Rosso serving as co-producer.
The original production featured actors Jung Jae-young and Park Si-hoo. Previous remakes of the story include the 2014 Malayalam film ‘Angels’ and the 2017 Japanese film ‘Memoirs of a Murderer’.
