Universal+ releases 'El Conde de Montecristo' miniseries

Universal+ will debut an eight‑episode miniseries adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s novel *El Conde de Montecristo* on 4 August 2026, streaming exclusively across Latin America. The production is a French‑Italian co‑production directed by Danish filmmaker Bille August and co‑written by Sandro Petraglia and Greg Latter.

The series stars Sam Claflin as the betrayed sailor Edmond Dantès, with Jeremy Irons, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, Ana Girardot and Blake Ritson in supporting roles. The plot follows Dantès’s imprisonment in the Château d’If, his discovery of a hidden treasure, and his transformation into the Count of Monte Cristo to exact revenge on those who wronged him.
