Universal, Sony, and Warner Music invest $76M in Stability AI
Major music industry players Universal Music, Sony, and Warner Music have jointly participated in a $76 million funding round for Stability AI. This marks the first time all three major labels have invested together in a single generative AI company.
Other participants in the funding round include Electronic Arts, AMD Ventures, and Pacific Alliance Ventures. The capital is intended to expand Stability AI’s Creative Production product suite, including research and professional services. A key focus is the development of Stable Audio 3.0, a model family trained on fully licensed data designed to integrate into professional digital audio workstation (DAW) workflows.
The investment signals a strategic shift in the music industry's relationship with artificial intelligence, moving toward the use of generative tools within licensed and professional frameworks rather than purely through adversarial or unmanaged means.
