Universal Studios Japan Shrek 4-D attraction faces potential permanent closure
The Shrek 4-D Adventure attraction at Universal Studios Japan may be facing permanent closure after remaining unavailable for nearly ten months. According to the park’s official refurbishment calendar, the attraction has been closed indefinitely since January 8, 2026.
Originally debuting in June 2003, the immersive 20-minute experience features 3D animation synchronized with physical effects such as moving seats, water sprays, and air blasts. The show follows Shrek and Donkey as they attempt to rescue Princess Fiona from the ghost of Lord Farquaad, utilizing the original film's voice cast.
While the attraction was previously a staple at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida, those American installations have already closed. The Japanese version has operated intermittently in recent years, sharing the Cinema 4-D Theater with other attractions, but it currently shows no scheduled reopening for the remainder of the year.
