Universal Studios opens Fast & Furious coaster amid noise disputes

Universal Studios Hollywood has officially opened the ‘Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift’ roller coaster. The attraction reaches speeds of 72 mph and features ride vehicles that rotate 360 degrees to simulate drifting. The coaster’s launch has faced local opposition from Toluca Lake residents regarding noise levels from riders' screams. In response, Universal has implemented sound-reduction measures, including a low-rumble track filled with pea gravel and additional sound barriers.

In a separate development, Universal Beijing Resort announced that it will pivot away from the roller coaster model for the franchise, instead adding a new indoor ‘Fast & Furious’ dark ride as part of an upcoming park expansion. This indoor attraction will focus on immersive storytelling and car chases. Additionally, the Beijing resort announced a new nighttime lagoon show.
