Universal surpasses $5 billion at the 2026 global box office
Universal has become the first studio to surpass $5 billion at the global box office in 2026. This marks the third time in the studio’s history that it has reached this milestone, following previous achievements in 2015 and 2017.
The studio’s total includes $1.788 billion from domestic markets and $3.218 billion from international markets. This performance represents a 29% increase over its 2025 global total of $3.89 billion.
Key drivers of this success include Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, which has grossed over $1.73 billion and stands as the studio’s highest-grossing film. Other major contributors include the ‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ ($1 billion), ‘Michael’ ($1.028 billion), ‘Minions & Monsters’ ($523.6 million), and Focus Features’ ‘Obsession’ ($519 million).
Universal distributed three of the five films that have exceeded $1 billion in worldwide revenue this year. Additionally, the international distribution of the Lionsgate film ‘Michael’ helped it become the highest-grossing biopic overall.
