Universidad Americana de Puebla closed in Xalapa for operating without official accreditation

The Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) has closed the Xalapa campus of the Universidad Americana de Puebla (UAMP) for operating without the required Reconocimiento de Validez Oficial de Estudios (REVOE). The closure occurred on August 5, 2026, at the institution's facilities located in the SIPEH Ánimas neighborhood.

Parents and guardians of prospective students, who had already paid enrollment and tuition fees for the 2026-2027 academic cycle, are demanding immediate refunds. The affected families reported that the university offered degrees in Law, Criminology and Criminalistics, International Business, and various administrative areas without legal accreditation.

According to reports, university officials denied that any irregularities existed and refused to return the payments. Some parents also noted that administrators attempted to cover the official closure seals with tarpaulins and continued to invite students to a welcome ceremony scheduled for August 8 in the neighboring municipality of Emiliano Zapata. Affected families have threatened protests and are seeking intervention from consumer protection agencies.
