Universidad Autónoma Chapingo seeks legal access to Zoquiapan forestry station

The Universidad Autónoma Chapingo (UACh) has initiated legal proceedings to regain access to the Zoquiapan Experimental Forestry Station (EFEZ) in Ixtapaluca, Estado de México. The 1,640-hectare site, located within the Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park, has been blocked by members of the Ejido de Río Frío since October 15, 2025.

Students and academics report that the blockade has severely disrupted academic, scientific, and research activities. On the one-year anniversary of the closure, students marched to Palacio Nacional to deliver a letter to President Claudia Sheinbaum, requesting her intervention to ensure safe and permanent access to the area.

The UACh maintains that it holds official federal documentation, including a 1993 delivery-reception act and federal real estate registry records, to support its administration of the property. The university's University Council has expressed unanimous support for these legal actions and opposes the politicization of the conflict.
