Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila develops indoor drone stabilization software

Researchers at the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila (UA de C) have developed a software algorithm designed to stabilize drones in indoor environments where GPS signals are unavailable. Led by Carlos Alberto Toro Arcila, the project utilizes a front-facing camera to create a “visual brain” that detects environmental contrasts and landmarks.

By processing visual information, the system can calculate the drone's displacement and measure distances to surfaces. This allows the device to generate velocity commands to correct its position, effectively compensating for turbulence caused by its own propellers. The development has reportedly reduced flight errors by 41.2 percent, enabling more precise movement within buildings, laboratories, or warehouses.
