Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila faces budget deficit and new medical service agreement
The Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila (UAdeC) is facing significant financial challenges, including a 600 million peso deficit in its pension system and budget cuts ranging from 60 to 70 million pesos. Rector Octavio Pimentel indicated that while a moderate budget increase is being proposed for the next fiscal year to address these needs, the final amount remains undefined. The university aims to prioritize educational quality, research, student mobility, and professional training despite these constraints.
In a separate development, UAdeC has signed a collaboration agreement with the Coahuila State Health Secretariat to expand medical dispute services. Through the Coahuilense Commission for Medical Conciliation and Arbitration (COMECAM), university facilities in Piedras Negras, Monclova, and Torreón will serve as regional hubs. These spaces will provide orientation and mediation for patients and healthcare professionals, allowing citizens to resolve medical grievances without traveling to the state capital, Saltillo.
