Universidad Autónoma de Occidente faces 105 million peso deficit

The Universidad Autónoma de Occidente (UAdeO) expects to close 2026 with a deficit of approximately 105 million pesos. Rector Pedro Flores Leal stated that the institution is currently seeking extraordinary resources from both federal and state governments to ensure the payment of year-end benefits, such as Christmas bonuses and vacation premiums.

This marks the third consecutive year the university has required external financial support to close the fiscal year. The deficit is attributed to a significant increase in student enrollment, with the institution currently serving over 23,000 students despite a budget designed for fewer than 10,000. Additionally, annual salary increases that were not accounted for in the original budget have contributed to the shortfall. The rector expressed confidence that the state government will provide the necessary funds to meet these obligations.
